Hmm.
I have the original Molly accessories, and I didn't remember the coin being real (it's in storage now, though, so I couldn't check).

If that is the case, though, I'm not really surprised that they're reproduction now. I think it would be difficult for AG to get their hands on a huge inventory of genuine Indianhead pennies.

I remember the very early catalogs saying the pennies were genuine. I think now that the indianhead pennies are worth $0.73 each, they switched to reproduction ones. It'd be expensive to get so many real ones!

I guess you're right about the travois and loom needing to be plastic for play. I just want more authentic ones for display, so maybe I'll attempt to create them.

Since the old ice cream freezers are wood, maybe I'll try to find one on ebay. I always thought they were cute, but I don't want a plastic one.

I don't know if Kaya ever actually used the saddle in any of the books - it seems that <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">spoiler (click to view):</font><hr size="1"><div class="spoiler" id="9UIA1B"> it was left to her after Swan Circling died</div><hr size="1"></blockquote> and that she did usually ride bareback with just the rope bridle/bit. I think the saddle is just supposed to be an accessory to tie into the story, but it does help her sit up on the horse a little better.

Has anyone received Addy's/Samantha's ice cream freezer that was plastic for certain? The reason I ask is that I have an older freezer that is wood. I then bought a new one from American Girl when they had them on sale. When I received it, it had a big chip out of the side of it and it is definitely wood, though not as good a quality as the old one. AG sent me a new one and it looks, feels, and sounds the same as the one with chip, so I believe it is made of wood too.

My Sam and Molly both came with real coins, but I'm sure my Sam's valise is plastic. Addy's gourd was a real disappointment, cause it looked so real in the catalogue! It's painted plastic, but the paint doesn't really adhere well, like if you picked at it it would just flake off.

My marginly new Molly and Samantha have coins that say quite clearly on the back COPY I know that earier they had real coins.

I received Samantha's travel accessories for Christmas and her hairbrush and mirror are shiny silver plastic. Have they always been plastic?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No this isn't true. I have her necklace and they are all the same size and shape and the catalog she is first featured in says coral colored beads

I just noticed an Ebay auction that said Felicity's necklace included in her accessories used to be made of real coral pre-Mattel and now it is plastic. They said you can tell because the beads now are all uniform and the same size and color which you wouldn't get with real coral. Has anyone else noticed this or knows if this is accurate?
